About Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple
Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is a historic old Indian temple in Singapore. Built by Indian pioneers who came to work and live here in Singapore, the temple was the first in the Serangoon area and became a focus of early Indian sociocultural activities there.
The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is primarily for the worship of Shiva's wife, Kali, who destroys ignorance, maintains world order, and blesses those who strive for knowledge of God. The box on the walkway to the front entrance is for smashing coconuts – a symbolic smashing of the ego to ask the Gods to show 'the humble way'.
