About Masjid Abdul Gafoor
Masjid Abdul Gafoor is a mosque in Little India (Dunlop Street) built in 1907. As one of the prominent mosques built by the South Indian Muslim community, it was gazetted as a National Monument in 1979. The mosque went through renovations and was opened again in 2003.
The beautiful architecture features Arabian, Indian and Renaissance influences. The mosque can be seen filled to capacity during the weekly Friday prayers.
Visitors are advised to be dressed conservatively when visiting the mosque. Female visitors are provided shawls to cover themselves when entering the mosque.
