The third installation of Raaga & Rhythm is just around the corner! Yes, we are talking about the ‘Raaga & Rhythm – Music Without Borders’ Concert which is to be held on 30th May 2019 at the Jockey Club Auditorium. Earlier the concert was organized in the year 2015 and then in 2017. This year’s Raaga & Rhythm will feature 35 musicians, 9 singers, out of which 7 are your favorite local artists and an emerging Bollywood star. Not to mention the 11-year-old child prodigy, Rahul Vellal. All For a Good Cause This year’s concert is not just a musical extravaganza, but a charity event as well. Musicians from Hong Kong, China and India will come together for an evening filled with traditional and contemporary pop music, Indian music (including Bollywood), Jazz, Chinese instrumentals and Western symphonic sounds to raise awareness about people with special needs in the workplace. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be contributed to SENsational Consultancy Ltd, who have been working diligently towards this amazing cause from the last several years now. What to Expect This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce yourself (or perhaps a friend!) to rare folk and traditional Indian string and percussion instruments. But that doesn’t mean your beloved Chinese and Western arrangements are not going to be there. It’s basically a cross-cultural audio visual treat where Carnatic, Hindustani, folk and Bollywood would meet Jazz, symphonic sounds and Chinese music in a perfect setting of music lovers from across the world. The Star Performers Exceptionally talented, globally-recognized artists like Eugene Pao, Roniki Gupta, Jessie Hou and Rahul Vellal will grace the event. Roniki Gupta was the winner of SaReGaMaPa World Finals held in the year 2004 and since then she has sung in several Bollywood films like Tumhari Sullu, Sui Dhaaga and Ankhon Dekhi. Vellal, as I mentioned earlier, is the 11-year-old child prodigy from India, who is a trained Karnataka Classical singer and a huge internet sensation. His fanbase includes music maestros like Sudha Raghunathan. Eugene Pao needs no introduction on the soil of Hong Kong! The legendary guitar player’s name is synonymous with Jazz music in Hong Kong. He is the first HK Jazz artist to sign with an international label. The Organizers This one-of-its-kind music concert is presented by the Chellaram Foundation and is produced by In Harmony Arts & Culture Ltd, in collaboration with City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. In Harmony is a non-profit organization committed to promoting cross-cultural exchange and dialogues via music and other creative disciplines. And CCO (City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong) is one of Asia’s most loved chamber orchestras whose members are professional musicians who perform a diverse repertoire from Baroque to Bollywood.
